4/26/03 Dream Flags go on display at CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia)! The flags were hung in a glass-walled hallway connecting two major buildings. Each day hundreds of patients, visitors, and staff pass through and see the Dream Flags. Flags are also displayed in Sea Shore House where long-term patients reside. 4/3/04 Dream Flag Project Celebration 2004 happens at Philadelphia's Kimmel Center! 48 readers from 21 schools and organizations read dream poems to an audience of over 500. More than 2,000 Dream Flags from 26 organizations were connected, surrounding the balconies of the Commonwealth Plaza. See Gallery for some pictures.

3/5/04 Philadelphia composer Andrea Clearfield and her trio volunteer to play improvisationally during the reading of the poetry on April 3! Ms. Clearfield will be on piano with Manfred Fischbeck on synthesizer and Ron Kravitz on percussion.

3/1/05 Members of the Middle School Worship and Ministry Committee of Friends Select School in Center City Philadelphia will be contributing 10-15 flags.

2/26/04 Students in the after school program, Readers-R-Us, at the Belmont Charter School for K-6 in Philadelphia will be adding 10 to 15 flags to the project.

2/24/04 Students in the preschool at E.M. Stanton School in South Philadelphia, will be creating 10-12 flags for the project.

2/19/04 Sixth grade students at Episcopal Academy in Merion will be creating 79 flags for the project.

2/12/04 Sixth grade students at Masterman School in the Fairmount area of Philadelphia will create 33 Dream Flags for the project.

2/11/04 Students in grades 3-6 at John Wister Elementary in the Germantown area of Philadelphia will be creating 240 Dream Flags.

2/10/04 25 Middle School Students from the French International School in Bala Cynwood will be joining with poems in several languages.

2/7/04 Students in children's programs at the Philadelphia City Institute Library in Center City Philadelphia will be able to join in, creating Dream Flags.

2/4/04 Middle schoolers and lower school students at Penn Charter will work together to create around 300 Dream Flags.

2/4/04 Third graders from The Westtown School join in with 36 flags.

2/4/04 Albert M. Greenfield School in Philadelphia joins in with 75-80 flags from first and second graders.

2/4/04 The Shipley School lower school students sign on with 150 flags.

2/1/04 Twenty third graders from West Pottsgrove Elementary School will be making their Dream Flags for the project.

1/30/04 The Art Therapy Department of Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania will be offering project participation to children who are have hospital stays so they can create their own Dream Flags.

1/30/04 Sixth graders at The Haverford School have committed to create at least 30 flags.

1/30/04 The third graders from The Philadelphia School will be creating 37 Dream Flags.

1/29/04 Baldwin School 7th grade will be joining in with around 70 flags. Other grades may participate as well.

1/28/04 Germantown Academy is joining with their own adaptation of the project. Students will be focusing on the work of Dr. Martin Luther King and will be pasting prose onto decorated felt flags for display at the school.. Later, they will develop these into web pages focused on King's work.

1/27/04 Perkiomen School middle schoolers will be joining in with 50 flags, and their upper school students may be making an additional 50. Their Diversity Committee is heading things up.

1/22/04 Our regional Dream Flag Celebration is set for April 3rd, starting at 12:00 noon at The Kimmel Center in Philadelphia!

1/22/04 10th graders at the Woodlynde School sign on to contribute 35 flags.

1/21/04 Abington Friends School middle schoolers join the project with plans to create 163 flags.

1/16/04 Chestnut Hill Academy second graders along with their teachers will create 38 Dream Flags!

1/15/04 The Shipley School 6th-8th grade will create 60-70 Dream Flags on their Human Rights Day, February 11th.

1/6/04 Springside School 5th and 8th graders will create 103 Dream Flags with collaboration of the English and art departments.

12/16/03 Second and third grade classes from The Agnes Irwin School will create 93 Dream Flags.

12/5/03 First and second grade students working with poet in residence Joanne Sutton-Smith at Greenwood Elementary in Kennett Square sign on for 220 Dream Flags. First and second grade students working with Joanne Sutton-Smith at Swarthmore-Rutledge Elementary school in Swarthmore sign on for around 200 Dream Flags.

12/4/03 Berlin Community School PK-8 School in Berlin, NJ signs on for all students and volunteer parents to create 700+ Dream Flags.

12/1/03 Project Learn K-8 School in Philadelphia signs on for all students--95 Dream Flags.

10/27/03 Dream Flag Project print brochure is completed and distribution started. Dates for this year's project are set for a start week of Feb. 1, 2004 and a culmination week of March 28. (Click image for PDF download of the brochure.)

9/10/04 6th grade teachers at The Agnes Irwin School commit to doing the Dream Flag Project again with this year's group of 53 students and to invite other schools to join in.

6/3/03 Agnes Irwin sixth graders held a Dream Fest. All of the Dream Flags were connected and displayed outside for all to read and appreciate. The culmination was a sing-along where the students learned a chorus tune for "Bring me all your dreams. . . " and sang verses from lines of their own dream poetry. (Click image for larger version.)

5/30/03 The dream flags at Agnes Irwin are made and sewn to the display line. We're planning a small Dream Fest for the last week of school. Several area schools have indicated interest in joining in next year.

5/6/03 Now 54 sixth graders have made and hung their Dream Flags at the Agnes Irwin School. Teachers are working on methods to fix the beautiful art work so it will not dissolve when the flags are hung outside.

3/30/03 At present, 54 sixth graders are making their Dream Flags at the Agnes Irwin School in Rosemont, PA. They're working out the details of how to create these flying dreams. We'll post pictures and results as the come up.
