San Francisco Gathering Redirected
7/26/09
The plans we had for a 2009 Dream
Flag Celebration this year had to be
redirected to next year as Kiki
Davis, our volunteer coordinator
from Marin Country Day School was no
longer able to organize the event.
She is leaving Marin Country Day
School, but luckily, Robert Green at
that school will take over the
leadership and Kiki will continue to
be a supporter as she moves ahead.
Robert is interested in facilitating
a Bay Area gathering in 2010 and may
also be involved in helping to
organize an exhibition of Dream
Flags at the National Association of
Independent Schools annual
conference in San Francisco in
January, 2010.
San Francisco Leads the Way in Dream
Flag Flying
3/10/09
This year's 2009 San Francisco Dream
Flag, led by Kiki Davis at Marin
Country Day School, is paving a new
direction for The Dream Flag
Project. April 25, 20009 will mark
the first time a regional Dream Flag
celebration has been held outside of
the city of Philadelphia where the
project started six years ago.
The
Dream Flag Project began as a sixth
grade English project at The Agnes
Irwin School near Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. Since then it has
spread to more than 26 states and
more than six other countries. More
than 30,000 Dream Flags have been
created by students in grades K-12.
The project culminates each year in
April, National Poetry Month, when
schools display their Dream Flags in
their halls and locally. In
Philadelphia, there has been a major
Dream Flag celebration each year,
connecting flags from many of the
35+ Philadelphia area schools
participating. Now San Francisco
will have its own regional
celebration, bringing together area
schools and their flags.
With the leadership of Kiki Davis,
their Diversity and Inclusion
Specialist, the school began
participating in The Dream Flag
project three years ago. It has
become an important part of their
work in helping students understand
the world, express themselves
creatively, and form a close and
caring community. This year, the
school is reaching out to other area
schools to help them learn about the
project and find the benefit of
coming together to form a broader
community and see the thread of
dreams that connects us all.
